“Attack the Block” is the new film by the producers of “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz“.  Very entertaining and very creative.  This British Sci-Fi Thriller is filled with laughs as well with a heavy dose of action adventure and suspense.  A great witty creative script with a wonderful young cast of unknowns is sure to make for a highly entertaining film.

First things first, the film must be watched with Subtitles in English in order to understand the British terminologies and the story will also run much smoother and clearer.

For example:

Feds = Cops              Bangers = Fireworks     Bruv = Bro

Chatting about = Talking about         Whip = Ride(Car)

You also get a peek at London’s Urban life which is interesting because American’s are descendants of the English however American pop culture manages to seep right into the British culture.

The film begins with a mugging by a teen gang in the South of London led by Moses a great young strategist with fellow gang members Jerome, Bigzz and Pest (with a name like Pest you as a viewer see how he earns his name).  At one point the victim of the mugging runs away and Moses in his cool demeanor and British accent in cool way says “Allow It” meaning let her go.  There are also two very young(Children) memorable characters that whom dubbed themselves “Mayhem and Probs (Short for Problems)”.  Then there is Ron a Pot dealing man who is logical and the same time the Comic relief of the film. At night trapped in their Housing Project armed with the knowledge of the layout of their block, Wit and very little resources the gang will defend the Block till the very end from a savage Alien invasion.  The Alien creatures themselves are somewhat unique, unlike anything you have seen before that are very strong and agile.  It is not enough that the gang has to defend The Block from a savage Alien invasion but they are also running from a local gangster Named “Hi-Hatz” who wants them dead!

The High octane Mix of Genres makes a great film! You have Sci-Fi, Foreign, Action, Comedy and Suspense rolled into one.  Although they have nothing to do with this film, due to the pace and creativity of the film, it feels like a cross “Crank” and “The Goonies“.  At one point of the Film the safest place on the Block is “Hi-Hatz” Marijuana Vault. 

 If you liked “Shaun of the Dead’ you will Love “Attack the Block”.  The rag-tag team of zero’s will go to hero’s before the night is over.
