I would like to please begin my Review with the Special Features.  The Content of the Special Features is what makes a Blu-Ray unique.  A DVD does not have the capacity to hold the information a Blu-Ray is able to.   Another fun fact about Blu-Ray is that they are Scratch Resistant, cool uh?
SPECIAL FEATURES:
 
  1. Filmmaker Commentary : It is always cool to watch a film and have the Director, Producer, or Star commenting on scenes as they go by and explaining the shot on why or why  it wouldn’t work.
 
  1. Featurettes:
 
A)     “Selene Rises” – Documentary on the return of “Selene” and the essence Kate Beckinsale brought back to the role.
B)      “Casting The Future of Underworld” – Documentary on the Casting of the Film and hints of Future Underworld Films.
C)      “Resuming The Action” – Documentary on Action Sequences and Stunts. Stunt Director’s makes cool comments on Kate Beckinsale performing most of her stunts.
D)     “Building a Better Lycan” – Documentary on Make-up and Special Effects.  Very cool! I always wondered how the Lycan’s were made and featurette showed many cool details.  Including CGI, Make-up and Animal Suit with Animatronics.  
E)      “Awakening a Franchise” – Documentary on 3D effects.  Educational in a cool way!  We learn that a new 3D “Red Epix” Camera was used for the 3D effects which records 120 Frames per Second.  A normal camera records 30 Frames per Second.

These are Computer Animated sequences created early in the Production process to help visualize the Key Action 3D scenes.

“IMMORTALS” REVIEW

First things first!  This is a film that must be watched on BLU-RAY!!!  I began to watch the film on DVD and it was very dark and difficult to enjoy the Special Effects.  One day later I had the opportunity to watch it on Blu-Ray the difference was like Day and Night.  Not only was the picture and sound much better I also discovered the Blu-Ray features an Alternative Beginning and Two Alternate endings not found on DVD. The perks of Blu-Ray are Special features galore.


I know you are thinking “not another movie based on the Greek Gods”.  Well yes! However what makes this film stand out from dozens of films based on the Greek Gods Mythology is that “Immortals” takes place at the beginning of the Ancient Greek Era which means we as viewers get to see how the Faith in the Gods began, in theory of course.  It is also loosely based on two Greek Mythological figures Theseus (The Ancient Founder of Athens) and Hyperion (One of the 12 Titans, son of Gaia and Uranus).
The slogan of the film is “Before the dawn of man or beast, immortals wage war against each other. The victors name themselves Gods while the vanquished are named Titans”.  And that is exactly what you get.  You have the mortal King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) who is in search of an Ancient powerful weapon called “The Epirus Bow” which holds the Power to release the Titans of their imprisonment by the Gods so King Hyperion may exact revenge on the Gods for personal motives. The only thing that stands in his way is Theseus (Henry Cavill-Future Superman) a young fearless warrior and the virgin oracle Phaedra (Freida Pinto).
As I mentioned earlier what makes this film stand out from previous films about the Greek Gods is that we see the Gods very young barely matured and very much worried about the fate of MAN.   The Gods in the film are second to the mortals in the story Theseus and King Hyperion.  The Gods role in the film is to let you know that they are there watching Man and are worried however cannot interfere. You see a very, I mean very young Zeus warning the other Gods “not to interfere in mortal affairs” on what seems to be a young and new Mount Olympus over looking at the Earth.  The film also focuses on faith and how faith is the best ally during the darkest hours. Don’t get me wrong it is not a religious film it just has a small message which is good to have faith.

What I have not mentioned yet is the action and special effects.  The action sequences are very entertaining and graphic as it was in “300”.  The visual effects are great!  And unlike “300” this film is in 3D so If you have a 3D TV and Blu-Ray a major plus which take the film to another level.  If you are not interested in special effects then you can enjoy Mickey Rourke who added his special blend of acting to the Fantasy Genre or you can enjoy watching up and comers Henry Cavill as the hero Theseus and the beautiful Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionare).  Either way it is a very entertaining film!

Synopsis:
Ramona (Taryn Manning), Billy (Eddie Steeples) and Kevin (Gerald Webb) have just come down from a hideaway in the mountains months after a zombie apocalypse. They are immediately beset by a dozen zombies and rescued by Mack, Cassie, Hammer, and Julian who are on their way to Catalina Island, the last refuge of humanity.  They take the newcomers under their wing as they hunt for supplies, kill massive amounts of zombies, and try to survive.

Director by Nick Lyon from a screenplay by Brooks Peck and Craig Engler, Zombie Apocalypse was produced by David Michael Latt, Paul Bales, and David Rimawi.

It is unbelievible how High Definition and Digital enhancements can improve  Classic films without having to re-do the productions ruined them by adding color and not to mention the amount of money saved.
The New 50th Anniversary Special Edition of the Classic tale of Love “WEST SIDE STORY” restored with HD Audio not MONO when origally released in 1961.
The dancing and visuals alone are stunning and make for great “eye-candy”.

The Shark’s vs The Jet’s never gets old, and yes I once knew a girl named Maria!

The West Side Story star Rita Moreno, George Chakiris and Russ Tamblyn leave traces of their hands and feet at the renowned Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in a tribute on the morning of Tuesday 15 November. An exciting premiere red carpet full of celebrities will be held that evening with the presence of Moreno, Chakiris and Tamblyn.

Fifty years ago, was premiered in theaters iconic film that forever changed the world of musicals on the big screen. Directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins with Robert Wise, with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein’s magnificent music, “West Side Story” was one of those movies that become instant classics. Taken ten Oscars (including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Score), the film garnered more awards than any other musical in history, including BAFTA awards, Grammys, Golden Globes and Directors Guild of America.
Based on the musical written by Arthur Laurents, “West Side Story” is an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, the ultimate romantic story. Set in New York in the fifties, the film captures the forbidden love between two members of opposing gangs, the Jets, a group of working-class whites, and the Sharks, Puerto Rican immigrants. In this version of the Shakespeare classic, young Tony (Richard Beymer), the Jets, falls for Maria (Natalie Wood), sister of Bernardo (George Chakiris), leader of the Sharks. Also memorable is the participation of our Rita Moreno, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for this role, and a Golden Globe and numerous other awards.
